Problems! I have had the chipper for 6 months now and it has been in the shop twice (soon to be a third time). I have spent countless hours working on it myself (since it takes up to 2 weeks to get it fixed). I hate this thing, it is the bane of my existence. It is now broken down again and it won't run, I have a call in to MTD to get my money back or at least another chipper - maybe they will let me keep both so when one is broken I can use the other... ^M
Nothing but problems In the 2 and 1/2 months I have owned this product it has failed three times. The first was the hinge on the limb chute broke. Then the pins that held on the flails were coming out. One was completely missing when this was discovered. Now after the tech came out and completley replaced the chipper assembly and it has been run maybe a week total 2 pins are missing from the assembly and two more are half out. One of the large pins that holds the flails on worked out and while it was running bent things up terribly. I do not know if they designed the product for the 6.5 Hp and did not get much response so they just placed a 10 Hp on it or what. But my unit is nothing but trouble. This all happened while only shredding leaves. A limb has never been placed in the unit.
Buyer Beware The Troy-Bilt CS4210 Model 24A-424G766 does not come with a Briggs & Stratton 10 HP Intek engine as advertised. Troy-Bilt/MTD discontinued equipping the CS4210 with the engine advertised in 2003. The CS4210 I received came equipped with a Briggs & Stratton Powerbuilt 10 HP engine(BS's lowest quality 10 hp engine). Troy-Bilt/MTD's marketing picture would lead you to believe the engine is the current Intek Pro because of the Dual element aircleaner, rocker on/off switch and high oil fill tube. Don't be fooled by the Troy-Bilt name either based on the reputation of the original company. This machine is an MTD entry level performance machine, not a commercial duty machine. All working parts are identical to other MTD chipper/shredders except for the chromium chipper blades. If you have a need for the commercial durability of an Intek engine don't buy this machine. If you already purchased one and feel misslead as I did, contact Troy-Bilt/MTD technical support (www.troybilt.com). They have offered 10 % of the purchase price plus a free set of chipper blades or to purchase the machine back. They have not yet been willing to change their advertising. If you are considering this machine, be aware that the machine advertised is currently not the machine being shipped. This is not Amazon's fault. Amazon is a very reputable company and stands behind what they sell. The marketing information is provided by MTD. |
