Complete junk I purchased this last summer for use in my garage and it failed after 2 mos. There were two major issues: 1) the plastic is not strong enough to support a heavy duty hose. I have a 100' Craftsman rubber hose and the weight eventually caused the screws to pull through the plastic on the back of the reel. That rendered the reel useless unless I drilled new holes and resorted to reinforcing them with metal washers. Issue 2) the hose guide frequently came apart and did not effectively distribute the hose. It's more of a hindrance than help. I just bought the industrial strength Rapid Reel hose which is twice the cost but guaranteed to last and made of all metal. Don't waste your money on plastic reels, especially this one.
Does all it's supposed to do Holds a lot of 5/8" hose. Doesn't leak. Reels up beautifully. My first one has been out in the sun for 5-6 years and is still as good as new. Big improvement over Ames' older metal hose reel which always rusted through and leaked through the support arm.^M
Much better than most This reel is far superior to other plasic reels. I've had one in continous use for about 4 years now with no breakage. The great thing about this reel besides durability id that it actually winds the hose up in a spool like it should and the device to spool the hose onto the reel actually works so you don't have to touch the hose with your hands. |
