A great, well-written reference If you're only going to buy one book on container gardening, make it this one. The writers are very experienced gardeners who write in a very accessible, matter-of-fact tone. They cover everything from preparing the soil, starting from seed to buying transplants and arranging the plants.^M
Excellent even for the beginning city gardener I love the format-you can really get through the book in one sitting! The writing is not boring and you really learn a lot. The authors also include their dissenting opinions so you really see both sides. Great for small space vegetable gardening. I think the herb/fruit/herb sections were not as comprehensive as the vegetables, though the whole book was highly informative.
My vegetable BIBLE This is the only book I needed when planning my container garden. I've tried to garden like this before with no help, to no avail. This book has given me all the tools I need on a plant-by-plant basis like: How to prepare the soil, when to water, how much fertilizer to use, what kind of fertilizer to use. I didn't find the recipies that useful, but there weren't many of them. I'd really like to see an accompanying cookbook. |
