Very pleased The book came in record time and was in perfect condition. only praises here.
Indispensible! This edition corrects some of the small things that bugged me with my older edition - for example, the lists of plants for special situations (shade plants, colorful plants etc) used to only have the botanical name, so you were forced to flip through the book to see what the heck they were talking about. Now the special situations section has been greatly expanded, and is much more user-friendly with the common name and page number where details of the plant can be found. Lots of marvelous color photos, plus the line drawings of the plants are now in color too. This book remains the gold standard for all garden books.
Only one complaint I have used this book extensively and can say from experience that it is a valuable tool. My only complaint about the book is that many of the varieties listed are primarily handled in California. Although this is not a big deal if there is a knowledgable gardener at the nursery who can recommend alternative varieties for your area, it can be annoying at times. Insofar as the book covers the climatary conditions in the western half of the country, it would have been nice to have the varieties carried in this region more equally represented. |
